I Made It!

Left home at noon on Saturday. Waited in check-in and security lines at JFK for about 1 hour – flight was delayed about 1 hour taking off because someone who checked in never showed up at the boarding gate: law dictates their bags must be removed from the plane before you can leave. Flight was long – 14.5 hours to Shanghai, 3 hours waiting for connection and 5.5 hours to get to Singapore. All was smooth here at the airport, especially because my friend Frank (of Jessie & Frank) met me when I exited customs – he helped me buy a local SIM card for my IPhone, exchange some dollars and gave me a “care package” Jessie had prepared including things like a subway card, map, and various other useful things. Frank drove me to my hostel here in Chinatown and we arrived about 7am – couldn’t checkin until 2pm so I decided to go on a city tour (one of those hop-on/hop-off deals) bus – was pretty interesting but I’m pretty tired and my back is starting to bother me – so I’m now in the hostel resting (at least I will be as soon as I set down this computer :-).

Love to all,
John
